Couples Shower- Buckman Style
Casey & I had our first wedding shower this past weekend and I can't begin to tell you how thankful and humbled we felt regarding everyone's love, support, and generosity toward us. Our couples shower most certainly showered us with more love and care than we could have thought possible. Casey's cousins drove all the way from Arkansas to host our party, that alone was something special. And you know what? They left no detailed unnoticed, from the gluten-free food options to the shower decor that artfully matched our wedding colors.
Our event was such a happy experience. And trust me, that is saying something coming from me. I, more often than not, shy away from any event that puts me the center of any form of focused attention. It makes me sweat and feel anxious just to think about it. It was most fitting then, that my first bridal shower was a couples shower which allowed me to have the comfort and safety of my best friend by my side. I'm always in awe at how he can so easily navigate and work a room. His sociability truly is a gift. I, on the other hand, find myself struggling to make small talk, even to people I've known for years. I'm learning that my social awkwardness and his social confidence are two halves of a pretty damn good whole, though. We certainly make a great team when we put our hearts to it... which might be part of how we won the Newlywed Game!
Have you heard of it? The Newlywed Game was a popular American game show that first aired in the 60s. The game challenged newly married couples against each other to determine which couple knew the most about one another (or in some cases, the very least). The best part about our version of the game was that we played it with our parents. You read that right. My mom and dad (who've been married 30+ years), Casey's dad and his dad's longtime girlfriend, and then Casey and I (the soon-to-be newlywed couple), played against one another. Our cousins(-in-law) peppered us with a variety of questions, from "what was your significant other wearing on your first date" to "what's your partner's biggest pet peeve." Each couple sat back to back and wrote what we thought our partner would say on a white board. After each round the three couples revealed their answers to determine if they'd matched. This was such a funny event that led to stories and revelations galore. And what a joy it was to share that with our families. Playing this game was definitely one of those memories I will cherish for many years. By the end, Casey and I had the most points and won the game! I think we even surprised ourselves on that one.
Our shower was so special to us which is why we feel it's so important to note that the food, decor, and games would not have been possible or near as much fun if it weren't for our loved ones in attendance. We are so graciously thankful and are looking forward to many more loving memories in our future.
